Snow Day

After studying pharmacology for hours and hours last night--- I woke up to a white out. It's settled down quite a bit now that the wind has died down-- but it was practically a blizzard for these parts! Victoria is pretty temperate and is known for its lack of snow. I'm a child at heart and get super excited once I see the snowflakes fluttering down. Everything looks so still and beautiful.

Sadly, my boyfriend has a delivery business... so the snow isn't very welcome. It makes the day long, hard, and a little dangerous. Thank goodness he has chains in his trunk. I made him a nice lunch and some Earl Grey Tea this morning so hopefully that makes the his day a bit better.

My college is shut down due to the snow, so I get to stay home today! I cleaned the house from top to bottom (boy did it need it-- I've been studying way too much to keep on top of things). I rewarded myself with a nice cup of cocoa in the cutest mug that my mum bought me for Christmas. She put a picture of her little mini dachshund, Felix, on it. Isn't he cute? Dinner is in the crock pot, and I've been spending the beginning of the afternoon editing photos, and watching "Every Girl Should Be Married"- A comedy from 1948 with Cary Grant on TCM. It's so nice not to be in a windowless classroom marking homework.

Happy snow day everyone! Enjoy yourselves, and be safe!

Tuesday Treasures

I am having a major craft withdrawal. I've spent the week doing a chapter of a gigantic medical textbook a day, with two tests every second day! I'm full of prefixes, suffixes, combining forms, blood disorders, abnormal conditions of, and different parts of the body. So far I'm doing well (95% Average and I've aced two of the four tests!), but it's a lot of work. I'm going to school, then studying until I go to bed. This leaves almost zero time for anything else. Luckily, I'm in the position where I can focus entirely on school (no kids or work-- I don't know how anyone else does it!).

I do miss crafting though, and hope that my next course allows me to have a bit more of a balanced life. This weekend was amazing-- I finished the 26 pages of homework on Thursday night, allowing for a day and a half with my boyfriend. We went out to dinner on Saturday night and used up our WhiteSpot gift certificate, went for an ocean drive and drank Starbucks hot chocolate (seriously, that stuff is gross! Macdonald's is cheaper, better, and doesn't use three different languages to indicate size-- Tall, Grande and Venti? Get over yourselves yuppies...haha... I digress...)

Anyways, it was lovely to just hang out, watch movies, cuddle on the couch, and eat good food. I feel like I haven't seen him at all this week, besides him picking me up and dropping me off (Isn't he a sweetheart?) On Sunday night, after I finished studying for my test on Monday, I had a chance to go on Pinterest and cyber-veg. (On my new laptop-- my other computer contracted a terrible virus and crashed half way through the week much to my dismay-- but I'll save that for another post) I've decided that sometime in the near future, I'd love to teach myself cross stitch. It's so cheerful, I love sewing but I'm terrible with a machine, and it's non-time consuming so I get to see the finished product much faster than knitting! (I'm working on finishing up a custom Freddy Krueger Doll at the moment-- It's pretty epic-- definitely not what I think of when I think of dollies!)

I'll talk more about school in a future post, when I have more time, but for now, here is Tuesday Treasures, Cross-stitch style!

Tuesday Treasures

So, I'm starting my course this week! Excitement! (Anxiety!) I might not be posting as regularly due to my possible FOUR hours of studying each night! As I am studying to be a Medical Office Assistant, I thought I would make that this week's Tuesday Treasure's theme!

EDIT: I wrote this over the weekend so I wouldn't have to worry about it during school. I had FIVE HOURS of deciphering medical terminology and writing out terms after my four hour class of doing the same thing. Spelling test today! What have I gotten myself into??

Resolutions

Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope everyone had a lovely New Years Eve. Last year we had a big party- appetizers, drinks, decorations. I drank only three drinks and spent the night sleeping in the bathroom. Last year's New Years resolution was to never drink again. I've almost recovered.

This year, we kept it simple, ate some of the enormous stash of chocolate we received for Christmas (I've hidden it in the cupboard and am pretending it doesn't exist), and watched movies.

When it came to twelve o'clock-- we were faced with watching Simple Plan perform on the Canadian countdown (really Canada?)-so we decided to see the pretty fireworks on the Space Needle in Seattle instead. I love New Years Eve kisses-- especially with the pretty glow from a Christmas tree in the background.

I've never been much of a resolutions person, but this year feels different. At 22, I feel like I've come to a crossroads in my life. While I am going to take a seven-month medical office assistance course, I did finish off a four year history degree and graduated in the fall. Now that I won't be a gigantic stress ball with my nose in 12 library books, eating Kimchi in my pajamas, and tearing apart my house to find lost items due to my exam fried brain-- I have no excuse to be stressed, to eat badly, not exercise or to be a mess. My extremely methodical, tidy boyfriend will also benefit from my New Years Resolutions...

  • Eat healthier. Learn to cook more nutritious meals. Eat Breakfast etc.
  • Exercise more. This Christmas was brutal on my waistline (so was four years of University-- who am I kidding?) I will not be the person who starves themselves and runs twice and quits by February. I bought an elliptical at a boxing week sale. I've also signed up for Spark People. It's a great resource, tracks progress, and has fantastic recipes. (I already made a Mango Salsa from their website-- it was delicious). I'm actually excited to start. I'm hoping that I'll be in a bikini on our second Annual trip to Parksville this summer. ^_^
  • Grow my hair. I have compulsively cut off most or all (the buzzcut was unfortunate) my hair every year I have lived here. I have masses of thick, wavy, wool-like hair. Every time it almost reaches my shoulders (at max-poof) I chop it off. This summer, true to form, I chopped it into a pixie. Now it's meandering into a sort-of-bob. Thank god for hairbands. By next Christmas, I'm hoping I will have hair.
  • Get a real job. My decision to go back to school was a hard one, (I'm still waiting to hear when the next session is), but I think gaining the skills for gainful employment (teehee) will be extremely worthwhile. It's intensely expensive to live in Victoria (small, bungalow on no lot= 400,000-500,000) so I need to have a good job. While being receptionist isn't my dream job-- I'll still have Blue Anchor Crafts as my hobby (and for a release of my pent up creative energy).
  • Blog more. I enjoy writing. I also enjoy coming up with things to write about. It's fun to spend an evening looking at inspiring things on Etsy, taking my camera out into the city and snapping some photos, knitting a new doll to share etc. It's fun to have a venue for arts and crafts
  • Be tidier. I'm a whirlwind. My mind usually has way too many ideas, usually on 5 different topics, at the same time. I'm constantly misplacing things. I need to keep things in order-- even if I'm in the middle of a craft hurricane.
